HUGE PROBLEM: Squirrels in roof + neighbors.

We reside in a TH condo dwelling with 100+ units.

We only feed birds and even have a squirrel proof feeder. We stopped feeding them 100% after scratching began in our rooftop last year or longer.  We live in a town Home Condo attached to 5 units. No hole was located for entry and our condo unit president (a local neighbor) had some half ass , lazy and inept (literally) unskilled and non thorough workers investigate where the origin of the hole if any was. None was found. So this past summer of 2012 the squirrels made a small hole beside the air vent of my neighbors top bedroom, roof level. They are in. We stopped feeding again for several months and they stayed. We told the condo manager and nothing still ... now these buggers have dug deeper and are affecting us + 2 other condo neighbors by way of noise , scratching all night + water damage too.

We did what we could., stopped feeding, told the manger , etc.. but now our feeder has been up 3 months and the effects are the worst and are afraid they will blame us for the damage ... we placed large rat catchers in the attic and any possible areas in rooftop. No luck.

The only solution I foresee now is having professionals go in the hole wit ha small wire Camera + assure all are out and seal the vents with better , steel mesh. The animals now know the easy way in so .... I am at a loss and my retired parents simply will not listen. we did our due diligence + they repairmen management choose last year did not conduct a thorough job / search and I think they are to blame for not taking preventative measures. We did. I do not want them having little ones in the roof and can only imagine disease they may bring or have... in insulation , etc...

No one is complaining as we all get along but now it is getting to a point where the damage and noise is too great to do nothing.

Birding takes my mind off stuff and it adds good life to a tuff life. It also helps me forget about my spine pain and stress.  Laugh, eat, be merry.  Anybody with extra $ may send me some as It will permit me to travel.

Squirrels also chew wiring which can lead to fire hazards. Due to the size of your problem proper professionals must be called to get rid of them.

I had a similar problem in a house I was looking after for a couple who were away.  Once I chased the squirrels out through the vent that they chewed through to get in, I recovered the vent with wire.  They then chewed through that wire to., and came back!
They need to be trapped by a professional!
Better have a pro. check the elect. wiring in the atic as well.
Good luck!

both nests have 1-2 babies and the grey mom is a tame, semi trained SQ, but obliviously the neighbor who raised it stopped a few yrs ago so I took over feeding and avoided letting it sit in lap after noticing aggression, lack of vision problems* .. would sniff at peanut from 6 inches and not find it fast.

As soon as kids r out we seal the holes for good, clean, etc.. and feeder comes out.  sure do miss the birds.  and no they did not do electrical damage stuff... or other. Just small holes in air duct vents going out of homes.

I saw this on animal planet....Infested! Single mom and daughter own home...rats quietly move in...they notice piles of nuts...by the to e they figured it out, they had a huge infestation of rats...the exterminators said they couldn't stop problem until food source taken away...some sleuthing led her to next door neighbours who were feeding squirrels...when she asked them to stop, they refused citing that they were feeding on their wn property...

On another note...I have been trying to find a home for a stray cat that's been hanging about my house for 6 months...it's declawed...it's hunting everything that visits my feeders...I could live with it outside but lately it has been successful and has caught birds chipmunks and squirrels....she's even gone after raccoons that try to steal the food I give her...and she's a tiny clawless cat..,except for her predatory behaviour she's adorable...did I mention she catches squirrels and goes after raccoons?

FOR THE LOVE OF ... JUST GOT BACK FROM THE UNIT AND THE GOOD MAN IN CHARGE BLOCKED ALL AFFECTED VENTS WITH STEEL COVERS. OK.

BUT I ASKED HIM , PLEADED PLEASE CALL ME SO WE CAN DO IT RIGHT AND GET THE YOUNG SQUIRR'S OUT , ASSURE THEY ARE GONE, AS THEY ARE BIG ENOUGH NOW TO START LEARNING TO BUILD A NEST, ETC.. ~!!!!!!!!!!!!          :?

AND THE MOM SQUIRR. IS RUNNING AROUND THE HOLES FRANTICALLY, I DID NOT HEAR ANY CRIES OR SUCH BUT LITTLE CHIRPS ... CHIRP .. PERHAPS THE YOUNG WERE ALSEEP AND WERE SCARED INTO THE ROOF AND NOW He tells me lets wait till tomorrow to see if so ..

and if so let us scare or starve them out a day or 3 ... any ideas how to get them out on their own accord, or they may be poisoned.

it is not an easy small step ladder nor quick fix here please remember as it is 30 foot high or so and the person in charge hires people who are labeled gen contractors (joke) and fix it alls , half ass jobbers. if U see my point???

I am so angry + frustrated and would feel bad if now worse happens ... they cant chew out of cinder-block or walls but insullation, feces, dead , etc... just when all is going Lswell and a day like this .. 99% of peolple I ask say kill them. They are vermin, who cares. Me? Sadly I am not. Life would be too easy then.
