Hi,
We have an ancient crabapple tree that we deliberately left the stump of a large branch attached to when the branch died. It's been home to downies and chickadees in the past.
This week a pair of red breasted nuthatches have been investigating one of the holes. We've seen them come out with little bits of wood. I think it's too soon to say they will nest there, but we'll be keeping an eye on them.
