Muscovy Ducks at Toogood Pond in Markham

I saw 2 Muscovy Ducks on Saturday at Toogood Pond in Markham.  They appeared to be breeding.  Doesn't seem like it's a countable bird in Canada but I do count it on my own personal list.  I figure if it's a bird that successfully survives and breeds in the wild, I don't see a reason for exclusion.  In the United States, for example, it is a countable bird for birders....at least according to Wikipedia.

Anyway, either way you look at it, it's still an interesting sighting.

I saw them yesterday too!!    I was quite surprised because they do look like and walk like domesticated animals.. !

Yeah they've probably been placed there by the city of Markham as decorative birds.  Many ponds, parks and golf courses have interesting semi-domesticated birds.  Sometimes it can be a bit misleading, especially to beginner birders such as myself back in 2013.

They are only countable in the US in very specific locations where they are essentially wild, such in south Texas.
