Yesterday the TRCA announced a new restoration project for the Spit. Apparently Coca-Cola is donating $500K over 5 years to create a new 9 hectare wetland, which will be larger than the existing one. I couldn't find a map in any of the news articles this morning so I'm not sure if they're talking about Cell 3 or the East Cove. More wetland habitat sounds great but I'm a little concerned about the plan to include improved access for fishermen! Allowing any type of fishing at the Spit has always seemed to me to be very contrary to the very concept of conservation. Here's one of the articles:
