I was surprised to find a field full of baltimore checkerspots in the lower part of Bestview Park late this afternoon. I've been visiting the park for over forty years and this is my first sighting of this species there! Also saw dozens of skippers, a few cabbage whites and one well worn orange sulphur. I still haven't sighted my first monarch this year, will try German Mills Park later this week.
