Oh there's something larger than sunfish in those ponds. On several occasions I noticed larger fish "flipping" at the surface of the water, but with all the floating green algae(?) it was hard to tell just what type. I wonder if somehow those invasive carp have found their way in there? Or maybe they were released in the ponds just like all the goldfish?  FYI, I sent an email to the Brickworks asking what their fishing policy is, so I'll post here again if I receive a reply.

likely a shark, Kris. :)

lots of fish break the surface. at the brickworks, it is to eat bugs.

Re Brickworks Fishing Policy:
Brickworks is a park owned by the City of Toronto (according to the Brickworks web page).
Usually that means the Park Bylaw (Chapter 608 of the Municipal Code: see http://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/municode/1184_608.pdf) applies.
The relevant section on fishing is:

ยง608-38.Fishing.
While in a park:
A.No person shall fish in an area posted to prohibit fishing;
B.No person shall store or leave any lures, bait, hooks, lines, poles or other equipment in the park in a location or manner that may injure other persons or wildlife; and
C.All permitted fishing must be carried out in compliance with all Ministry of Natural Resources Rules and Regulations.

So unless it's posted otherwise you can probably fish there.
Fishing Regulations: We are in Zone 16.  Here's the link to the zone 16 regulations: http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/stdprodconsume ... 001335.pdf
Here's the link for Ontario generally: http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/stdprodconsume ... 198219.pdf
(The zone-specific regulations concern catch limits).
Note that the MNR & TRCA are currently studying fishing in Toronto with the aim of trying to sell as many licences as possible & are heavily promoting fishing.
Turtles
Snapping turtles are listed as special concern under both Ontario's Endangered Species Act and the federal Species at Risk Act, so there is a bag limit of 2 per person per day from July 15 to September 15 (Toronto is in WMU 78E) with a valid fishing licence, but you must report them!  See page 6 of the Ontario hunting regulations http://www.mnr.gov.on.ca/stdprodconsume ... 239852.pdf

Just a quick question, when you talk about birding at Brickworks, and finding birds such as green herons and BCNH, are we talking about the ponds right by the parking lot??

simple answer: there are only around 4 ponds to look at, including the little one right beside bayview. not too hard to look for the birds.
look around....

went there today for the market.

if you want to see chimney swifts, the next 1-2 weeks at the Brickworks are idea. they were flying 5-10 ft off the ground. around 20+ of them. their #s will swell and then they'll fly south. last year, think they grew to around 50 before migrating. the swifts were above the front pond.

saw 1 hummer feeding. will go back this week for photos. think i heard a 2nd hummer
