Juncos Return to Backyard

The first juncos returned this morning .
  Have a downy woodpecker feeding on suet cake in a newly set up - feed from beneath type feeder - a first for me and hopefully will prevent suet from being taken by starlings ( as yet to show up)  and sparrows . Is working with sparrows so far.
Cardinals and bluejays also feeding on black oil sunflower seed.
Good to see birds other than hoards of sparrows.

Hi Jim.  I've been seeing a couple of Juncos up here over the last couple of weeks but this morning, sighted 50+ mainly at Plowman's Park with a few at Lake Aquitaine.

Same here; I had at least 10 Juncos showing up at a given time at my backyard this morning; first sighting at the backyard was two days ago. They are feisty ones, not afraid of the sparrows it seems. The white crowned sparrow is gone, replaced by Nuthatches and Juncos. Cardinals are always present, particularly at dawn and dusk.

Juncos are here too and since I had decided to take in the hummingbird feeder when the juncos arrived I finally did just that (It was a great year for hummers, I'll put up at least two HB feeders next year for sure). Other recent visitors included a pair of blue jays, several goldfinches in winter plumage, a downy woodpecker, robins, chickadees, cardinals, kinglets and sparrows. Btw, I'm not sure why but I've been buzzed by kinglets twice in the past week, just curious I guess. Almost forgot - the budgie is still around.
