i looked at that the other day and asked myself why i bothered. remember 2 years ago, when we were getting April sightings? that was a good year :)

end of May for sure. i'm having work done on my back yard at the end of April, so the longer the delay, the happier i am :)

Getting really close now.
Look like (and forgive me if I am wrong...I failed geography every time) but it looks to me like New York State.
Just across the pond.
You ready Howie??

You won't believe this but I just looked at Lanny's maps and wondered if you were checking them as well. Guess I'm as ready as I'll ever be, just planted wildflowers, checked the feeder(s), etc. We should be seeing the first males before the end of April but I don't expect the 'regulars' to show up until mid May. Btw, I forgive you and what's "geography"?

they're heading north quite early. almost too early.
guessing Toronto will start getting its reports in a week. the cold front coming in, plus the great lakes being so great, will slow down the movement into ontario.
or so i postulate.

I hope the first wave hummers is ok because the temperatures in Pa and New York State were well below freezing last night and tonight won't be much different but I'm still hopeful of seeing my first male by late next week. The sparrows are sure gonna miss the regular feeder after the switch - sorry guys, I only have one shepherds hook!

my guess is that Toronto may get sightings as early as Friday, but regular traffic will be in a week, depending on winds.

i also think that feeders may be pretty busy due to the lack of flowers and bugs.

I guess it's possible, especially for feeders close to the lakeshore. Anyway, when my wife asks me why I'm sitting in the yard doing nothing, with tons of work to be done around the house, I'll tell her Richard made me do it! (I won't tell her I want to be the first one in TO to report a Hummer sighting 'cause that's way over the top!).

Here we go...  :D   So the race is on to see who spots the first back yard hummer eh Howie?
I can't remember...I think you beat me last year.
I think I might have to remind your wife how much you have to do, and sitting around staring at the yard in very nonproductive

So Meghan, are your feeder(s) up yet? I've actually had a few visitors but I suppose ants don't count! Btw, according to Lanny's maps hummers have been spotted north of Toronto so it shouldn't be long now. May the best man win!

I as well saw they are getting closer. Damn the ones that bypassed up completely and headed up north!!
Put my feeder up yesterday. Just one for now till they show up.
No Howie, ants don't count   and before you ask...wasps don't either.

Good luck.

Still no Hummers, but I've got Orioles now so that's a good runner up.
One day later than last year, Hummers should start popping up next week (based on last years calendar)
Everything is right on schedule

I don't know Meghan? - maybe we are too honest but based on these reports it should be any day now! :)
