Reading in the backyard with 20° - it's been so long! My yard is surrounded by maples, birches, a beech tree and some pines and cedars. Each warmish day brings its pleasures. Today I had a mix of small bits of bird: I identified goldfinches, juncos and a sensational ruby-crowned kinglet the size of my thumb. Even tho he hopped around a tall busy close to me, I wasn't quite sure about it until I saw the red patch on the top of head, like a drop of paint rather than a cap. Thats a finch, a sparrow and a warbler. I think there may have been other warblers in the group but I couldn't get a good enough look. Great day!
