After not seeing any finches all winter I suddenly have several goldfinches at my feeder and an eastern towhee (a lifer for me) has also been around for a few days. Sure beats having only house sparrows and chickadorks! :)

Interesting; I saw an Eastern Towhee two days ago at my fenced backyard. That's a bit unusual given that she wasn't there for bird seeds. Luckily I had finches all winter; even the day after the ice storm. Last one year I have seen quite a few different kind of sparrows (White-crowned, Chipping, Tree, Song, White-throated and House) at the backyard; today I got a lifer in the form of a Field Sparrow. The Juncos are still around, male cardinal shows up a couple of times a day (the female may be busy tending her nest), and now a pair of brown-headed cowbird re-appeared. Nuthatches, Chickadees and the Downys seem to have disappeared - they were quite abundant in the winter months.
