Wet Woods May 1-4

Just today's highlights:

Pine Warbler - 2
Palm Warbler - 1
Yellow Warbler - 1
Least Flycatcher - 1
Chimney Swift - 2
Rusty Blackbird - 2
Snow Geese - 2 flying north
White-throated Sparrow - one bazillion
Blue-headed Vireo - reported by other birders in the hollow

The brightest yellow Yellow Warbler was the best colour in the Wet Woods this afternoon. And the most excitement occured when a Northern Harrier zipped and zoomed in chasing something that escaped. It sat on a branch in defeat and the whole woods went totally silent except for the strong alarm calls from the Red-winged Blackbirds that were on alert in the high trees just far enough away to be safe. The harrier departed, flashing its white rump, and the chorus resumed.

Two fly pasts by a raven heading out the Spit, calling as it went by, and Chimney Swifts flying above the marina road.

peregrine falcon flew through the woods at such an insane speed. i assume it was a peregrine, size and speed-wise.
sparrows everywhere
around 20 chimney swifts (or more) flying, except they were heading southeast. whoops.

no other warblers noticed

Family commitments limited my time to only 2 hours early this morning, but it was enough to find a few new arrivals. No doubt more good birds are being found over the course of the day!

Family commitments limited my time to only 2 hours early this morning, but it was enough to find a few new arrivals. No doubt more good birds are being found over the course of the day!

to be honest, things died down 1 hr after you left.
just a bunch of chimney swifts in the air.

I was there today from 9:45 am to about 1:30.  I saw the following:

- Black & White Warbler - at least 1
- Black Throated Green Warbler - at least 3
- N. Waterthrush - at least 1, possibly 2
- Ovenbird - 1
- Palm Warbler - 1, possibly 2
- Chimney Swifts
- Some kind of falcon..may have been Peregrine, but size was small...inconclusive
- both Ravens, one chasing a RTH at one point
- Hermits
- White Crowned Sparrows
- Gnatcatchers
- Catbird

And of course an assortment of more common birds like Song Sparrows, WT Sparrows, Chickadees, Cardinals etc.  

Definitely a very nice day.  It's great to see migration starting to pick up.
