Had a great weekend. I wasn't aware until this year about Owls at this time of year. Too bad the weather was so grey. Enjoy.

Nice photos, especially that second shot of the Barred Owl.

Hi Mike,

I've spent the last few weekends looking for Hawks and Owls with not much luck. Those are nice shots. Where were they taken?

As there aren't many Northern Hawk Owls in southern Ontario, I'm willing to bet that it is the "Winona" bird (Winona being a small community between Hamilton and Grimsby).  Directions can be found in this post: -->  http://www.virtualbirder.com/bmail/ontb ... dex.html#5

Yes that's the "Winona" bird  :o  The Barred was at Leslie Spit last Saturday. The Short Eared was same spot as the Northern.

A photo bug friend of mine   is trying to talk me into heading up Fifty road..If

you know what I mean.. Is that NHO still there...?? I'll end driving because I know the area.. That is/was my short cut up the escarpment to hwy 20 etc..

My Friend Mario who is asking for help.. would like to thank the nice gentlemen who was kind enough to give him a very nice tour of the spit (this past

Saturday) and point out the locations of of all of the recent resident owl's..locations... It gets better.. He offered the use of his 500mm f4 with tele to

my friend to use for a some images of a Barred owl... Very Nice of this fine gentleman to help in that sort of way..  "there is still hope"

I was not there I am just recounting the story.. Napper:))

Yes Napper, that NHO is still there as of last Sunday. The Barred Owl would be the same one in my post that you're talking about, unless there's another one at the Spit that I'm not aware of.

I spent about 4 hours last Saturday hiking the spit with my son in our second fruitless attempt to locate the Barred Owl that has been posted in this forum.  Happy that someone saw it on Saturday.  Oh well.  Soon.

Seems some people think that this Hawk Owl can't find its own meals.

Nice shots Mike.  I have got to get out there while that bird is still around.   Although from what I hear he has an excellent food source, including all teh baiting that people are doing to get shots of him lol.

I assume that these are the shots you got after our excursion with the Great Horned yesterday morning.  I hope you found your bino's too.

Hi Jaedon. Yes it's too bad it wasn't a "natural" mouse. He has a stash...and I did find the binoculars. I left them on my seat :P
I also saw a Bald Eagle yesterday at Woodland Cemetary. Couldn't get a good shot off but I was happy to see it.
