saw a bird about 100 ft away and 60 ft up. looked briefly through binocs. may have been the size of a robin. slightly smaller.
it had a song like a chipping sparrow, but it lasted for 10 seconds. did it a few times.
i assumed a chipping sparrow's song would be shorter. also thought chipping sparrows wouldn't be that high up.
thoughts?

Chipping sparrows will have very long songs and sing from quite high up at times.
Other birds that trill include Pine Warbler, Swamp Sparrow and Dark-eyed Junco

I often see Chipping Sparrows high in trees, especially conifers.  There are several other birds that sound similar (to me at least) but the prime suspects should all have moved through by now:  Junco, Pine Warbler & Orange-crowned Warbler.  It would be a bit unusual for a mockingbird to sing just a Chipping Sparrow song, without mixing in a few others.

yeah, too late in the year for pine warblers and juncos (in East York).
i assume it's a chipping sparrow, then. thanks!
