Myself,Victor and Bob had a great day at Wolfe Island near Kingston. We arrived after a recent snowfall..not much, and hit a few squalls while on the island, but there was alot of sunny weather, and depending which way U were pointed, the wind wasnt too bad. We located 2 Snowy Owls on 5th Line, one was flying stage left. We stopped and got out to see if we could relocated that bird, and in the process I spotted another perched on a log, very low to the ground. We had a good look at it,before moving on. Roughlegged hawks were all over the island,we easily saw 40..likely more. Many were very close. There were both dark and light morphs. We saw one on a kill in a field..it looked like a bunny. We saw interaction between a Roughleg and a Northern Harrier. There were several Northern Harriers,at least 2 were males. We saw a few American Kestrels perched on wires. I spotted a buck, and when we reversed for a better look,a Northern Shrike landed very nearby it. We spotted one small flock of each of Snow Buntings and Horned Lark. We saw at least one Bald Eagle..adult,later we saw another coming from the direction the first flew in so we cant be sure it wasnt the same one. A few common winter duck species were seen,as well as a few Great Black-backed Gulls. It was my first time there, and I hope not my last. Dont ask me for directions..I dont drive..I watch for birds out the windows!
