ABB was full of birds this afternoon, perhaps pushed down by the fog. Along with both kinglets and chickadees that were everywhere, brown creepers were creeping up, white-breasted nuthatch were going down, downy's were zipping in and out, a hermit thrush was having a bath by the fence just where it meets the water, a Swainson's thrush was gobbling red berries as were the endless white-throated sparrows. An adult white-crowned sparrow was near the fence line, and I gave up counting winter wrens at 13. Endless yellow-rump warblers, 2 palm, 1 male black-throated blue, 2 male magnolia (or the same one twice), 1 Nashville and 1 yellow - seems pretty late for that one? The Cooper's hawk flew over which quietened things down for a minute or two. 3 monarchs fluttered by heading west - they are running late too. The best spot was down in the woods along the shore near the 'stone beach'. The chickadees and kinglets were the background music and the others were all just part of a big loose flock. I followed the singing and then sat on a rock or log and enjoyed the show. Spindle berries are almost out - such a beautiful Fall shrub.
