Hi everyone

I just wanted to say thank you once again for the warm welcome I received in Toronto in my recent visits. I met several of you when I was out and about and it makes birding so much more pleasant. As I am lucky with my job in that I fly for an airline and get to go birding all over the world I can absolutely assure you the welcome I always get in Toronto is not reciprocated in other cities!

I saw the Yellow-crowned Night Heron (my target bird) with the help of the excellent directions some of you posted and with the help of Andrew Keaveney on his excellent bird walk. I only joined the walk for twenty minutes until we relocated the heron but afterwards I wondered if Andrew charged or asked for donations. By then it was too late to ask so if I freeloaded on you Andrew my apologies.  Whatever, he got his own back by finding the Whip-poor-will after I moved on which would have been a lifer for me.

Thanks again. see you next time

That's cool that you can bird all over the world.  How many birds have you seen so far?  And what kind of other interesting places have you been to?

Hi Rotarran

I don't really like to answer that sort of question as it isn't down to me and it looks like I'm boasting. I'm just very lucky to have a job like mine. but since you asked, I'll give you a short glimpse. I've been to 106 countries and been paid to be there. Back in April I saw birds in all six inhabited continents in 23 days!

I'm in Delhi next week, then Kazakhstan, then New York at month's end.

Pine Warbler on Toronto Island was my 998th bird of the year and I've seen 2352 whilst "at work" in my career.

It's not all rosy. I've missed two wedding anniversaries, a few family birthday and scores of parties and invitations to dinner over the years.

I love my job but it sure is exhausting too which is why, when I come to places like Toronto and meet other birders I have such a good time and I'm really grateful.

If you want a better overview of my life check out my birding friend Simon's free blog. He does the same job as me and his photos are better than my field sketches!

Best Regards
Graham
