I visited the islands after a short heavy rain period catching the 10.30 ferry to Hanlan's then walking along the fence to the open area and across the south shoreline woods before cutting through the parkland to Central to catch the 2.45 ferry back to the city.
At first it seemed quiet then more and more migrants and summer visitors appeared and I ended up with a good list (which is entered on eBird).
Sparrows, song, white-throated, a Lincoln's, a Field (near the Hanlan's dock),
warblers, at least 100 mostly Yellow-rumps of course but one Nashville and a Pine near to Central and a few Palms throughout. There were two Yellowthroats near Hanlan's.
Vireos, at least one red-eyed and probably two near the school's centre and a Blue-headed in the South woods.
Kinglets, both species throughout. 60% ruby
Woodpeckers a sapsucker and two downys
Mimids brown thrasher (pished in the south shore woods) and three catbirds (two in the south shore woods and one at Central Ferry dock)
Falcon a male peregrine through Hanlan's airfield at 12.10 heading east.
crows two Americans at the airfield and what I am 90% certain was a raven heading west at the same location at 11.40am
Thrushes very responsive to pishing. at least three Swainson's and a Grey-cheeked in the south shore woods
Also a Hooded Merganser, three Red-necked Grebes, a belted kingfisher (near the lighthouse) and one winter wren
See you next time I'm in Toronto
