I went down to walk the shoreline yesterday on a spectacular afternoon. Two common loons off Whimbrel Point and perhaps more further out. A kettle of turkey vultures and red-tailed hawks circling high above in the brilliant blue sky. A greater yellow-legs was poking along the rocky shoreline of the beach directly south of the parking lot. 5 green-winged teal in the marsh including a beautiful male. Widgeon there too. 3 monarchs feeding on any available bit of clover, orange sulphurs, a clouded sulphur and a few cabbage whites still flitting about. Woolly bears everywhere on the paths and the three muskrats previously reported were all curled up in a ball on what is left of the grebe nest platform. Winter ducks are back including a few bufflehead and one golden-eye. And as always, dozens of red-necked grebe and scaup. Bittersweet in full bloom. And here we go again with another glorious Fall day.....enjoy!
