For a few weeks I've been hearing what I thought were Pine Siskins from the yard.  Tiny birds flying over head every morning while I filled the feeders.  I had not had Siskins other than a couple since 2009 when we had almost 2 dozen for over a month.  Anyways, a couple weeks ago one landed in a tall cedar at the back.  And this past weekend, 6 (possibly 8) landed in the yard to the feeders and the bird baths.  Woo hoo!  Nice to see them.  And this is my first weekend for Project Feeder Watch with Bird Studies Canada, so that's a great start to the count season!  I hope they stick around for a while here in west Toronto.   :D

A birth certificate shows we were born.  A death certificate shows we died.  Pictures show we live.

The last time we had any real numbers of this species was back in 2009 with about 18 of them hanging around for much of the winter.  They were followed by just as many Redpolls for a couple weeks in late February.

May, eh?  We had one 2 summers ago for a week or so.

They are around, keep your eyes open for 'em.  Good luck!

I've got 2 siskins today, first in my yard since April 2013.

About 6 Pine Siskens showed up at our feeders this morning. Some were doing the upside down feeding at the nyjer.
