Both color morphs of the Rough-legged Hawk were hunting on the Spit this morning. Around 8:30 I saw a dark morph RLH kiting above the East Cove, and two hours later found what I think was the same bird flying above Peninsula A. A light morph bird was hunting between the Red Bridge and Peninsula B, at times in company with a Northern Harrier. I saw at least three Harriers on the day, one of them an adult male. A juvenile or female Harrier that I first saw over Cell 1 was being harassed by a pair of Common Ravens, who pushed it all the way to the southern extremity of the Spit, where all three birds turned and started making their way north again.
The surprise of the day was a Yellowlegs sp. that flew up from a bit of rocky shoreline west of the Lighthouse where I was looking--without success--for Purple Sandpipers.
