Harlequin Duck on the Spit

Around 9:30 this morning, I found a female Harlequin Duck in a raft of Redheads and Scoters just past the Marina and towards the Outer Harbour. Observed the bird for about 5 minutes and took a few photos that are just good enough for confirmation purposes. At some point the bird dove and I couldn't find it again. Ran into Anne Marie and Celia, who had a scope with them and we searched the flock for another 20 minutes without success. Many of the birds are sleeping with their heads tucked in, which only adds to the difficulty. Anne Marie also found a male Pintail sitting on the far shore. If you would like to see a photo, send me a private message through this forum.

I just realized that Howard Shapiro posted this duck on eBird yesterday, so congratulations to Howard for discovering it. The bird seems to like where it is, so it may stick around for a while.
