Today, I saw three crows harassing a cottontail rabbit. They each would take a turn nipping it. The rabbit would leap and try to move away from them. Eventually, it hid in some of our bushes for a bit. It came back out to eat and two of the crows continued to nip it. I had a feeling that they were checking to see if it was ready to become hassenfeffer   By the evening, only the feisty rabbit was left. We live in the Bathurst/Sheppard area.

Yeah I find crows...hypocritical....the big protectors....harassing predators.....mammals and birds of prey....and then they raid nests of smaller birds...but interesting here they were harassing not only a non-predator but an animal that isn't in competition with them...

Does anyone know why crows congregate in super flocks during the winter ? During the summer I find the smaller flocks are territorial and yet they get so tolerant at a time you'd expect competition to be high.
