Hard to believe this could end anytime soon but the bully (a young male I think?) is still here and chasing other birds all over the yard. The young cardinal just heads straight for the bushes but the chickadees fly all over the place with the hummer in hot pursuit, really funny to watch! and just a few minutes ago he chased young sparrow and appeared to do a courtship dance - I guess you gotta start somewhere! :) I also have a young female that shows up during the day; of course he chases her away as well but she's pretty persistent and usually ends up feeding anyway.

I've been getting quite a few hummers the last 10 days or so at the sugar and water feeder. I have discovered they really love the sprinkler. When I put the sprinkler on they come and hover in the spray. Pretty comical. They don't get along with one another very well though. Always fighting.

The past few days have been pretty quiet so it's probably time to head down to one of the lake shore parks or Rosetta M.G. for the late summer feeding frenzy! I do have a scruffy young bird (I think it's a female?) that doesn't feed much but watches the feeder and chases away other hummers that try to use it; today it was a male, probably a migrant, that was told in no uncertain terms to get lost...and he did! I actually waited around to see if he would return but no such luck - still nice to see a mature male in September!
