Low-light birds in flight

Hello,
Does anyone have any tips for good settings to use when trying to capture birds in-flight when the weather is overcast and dark? A high shutter speed is needed, but this darkens the photo quite a bit, and raising the ISO only does so much...

Low light and a moving subject are not generally the ingredients of a sharp photo. If you are trying to add some detail to a silhouette, try over exposing by about 2 stops (as a starting point). It will reduce your shutter speed and turn your sky white, but it will brighten the bird.

Brian has summarized it very well. In addition, if you are a Nikon user, you can try Spot metering and 9 point focusing and of course opening the aperture as much safely as you can.
