Maplewood Park

[Bird Brain]

Hi everyone.  On Monday, Feb. 15th from 10:45am-12:15pm, Day 4 of GBBC. This was the mildest of the 4 days at -13c windchill with light snow.
Maplewood Park - East side of Glen Erin Dr., 1 1/2 blocks North of Aquitaine Ave. Sighted the following:

Rock Pigeons
Mourning Doves
Hairy Woodpeckers (females)
American Crows
Black-capped Chickadees
Red-breasted Nuthatches
White-breasted Nuthatches
American Robins
Dark-eyed Juncos
European Starlings
Northern Cardinals (2 males, 1 female)
House Sparrows - everywhere!  200+

Side note:  Sunday, Feb. 14th - Riverwood:  Downy, Hairy and Red-bellied Woodpeckers.

I drove past there on Sunday and thought about you, since I haven't been to Lake Aquitaine and Maplewood in quite a while.

Hi winz.  I haven't been down to Lake Wabukayne for ages - hopefully this Spring, once it warms up a bit!  <<<  :shock:

Not seeing much at Lake Aquitaine lately.  It will be good when the new community centre opens later this year and parking available, also when the public washrooms open again.

I didn't see Coopers hawk in the list anywhere.

Hi ostrich.  I haven't seen any Cooper's or Sharp-shinned Hawks this Winter.  Seeing the occasional Red-tailed Hawk at West perimeter of YYZ.

My locals are back on territory now and I think are starting courtship.  It's too bad if they aren't around Maplewood.

Awhile back, there was major construction on Glen Erin Dr. by Maplewood Park - all birds and squirrels disappeared!  Seemed like a ghost town for awhile and it's only recently that birds and squirrels are returning.  Cool re: your locals!  Also, I wonder if the Cooper's Hawks will be at Riverwood this year?
