This morning at about 7:45 AM a fish crow flew over the forest next to San Lorenzo Ruiz school, 840 Bur Oak Ave. in Markham. This is in the McCowan and Major Mackenzie area. I heard its distinctive call.

Nice find. In eBird, there are no previous observations in York Region.

That's close to where I work but just couldn't get out in time.  Nice find though!  There were quite a few American Crows at Downsview yesterday so it looks like some big roosts have broken up and moved out.  Maybe among the hundreds or thousands of American Crows were a few Fish Crows.  I remember last year someone thought they saw (heard) Fish Crows on Bayview close to Steeles also in February.

I had my camera in my car, but I had already left my car. I was a bit surprised to see one, especially up there.

You should submit this sighting to the OBRC. If it gets accepted, it will be put into eBird eventually.

I think I will....thanks! I noticed a few more crows than usual in the same area today but, none were the fish crow, at least not today. I'll be watching for it, hopefully it will show again.

If you manage to refind it, you should really try to get a voice recording as that's the best way to get Fish Crow records past the OBRC. Awesome find btw! Great when you finally hear something other than American Crow!
