This Saturday I was on the guided bird walk at Riverwood Conservancy in Mississauga, and the family of Mourning Warblers all showed up briefly beside the path. The male I've seen many times and he's easy to recognize. The female and an immature also were with him. I got a reasonable photo of either the female or the immature. I'm guessing this might be the immature, but then I read somewhere that the females can have a white throat while transitioning to their non-breeding plumage, so I'm now confused.
If anyone has experience with these warblers, is there any positive way to decide whether this is a female in transition or an immature?
Opinions are welcome!
Fortunately, since the group saw all 3 there is no difficulty in reporting to eBird.
