Got very excited about my backyard butterfly sightings yesterday.
1. Monarch nectaring on an Echinacea (apparently last weekend's butterfly count only turned up 10 monarchs in Toronto, so I was pleased to have one in my backyard).
2. Red admiral basking.
3.Spicebush swallowtail nectaring on Monarda didyma (red bee balm). Confident about the id due to its behaviour (fluttering wings while nectaring). My backyard is near High Park (breeding colony on the sassafras) & my spicebush are doing well, so I've been hoping to see this butterfly.
4. Cabbage white (okay, not especially excited to see this one).
