With a few days of stormy weather behind us I thought this morning I'd get up early, go out and fill the feeders, and then sit-back and watch the yard and the sky from the comfort of the kitchen window.

Red-tailed Hawk - 1
Ring-billed Gull - X
Iceland Gull - 1
Rock Pigeon - 13
Mourning Dove - 1
Downy Woodpecker - 2
American Crow - 3
Black-capped Chickadee - 6
White-breasted Nuthatch - 2
American Robin - 120 estimated
European Starling - 75 estimated
Cedar Waxwing - 40 estimated
Dark-eyed Junco - 9
Northern Cardinal - 4
House Finch - 3
House Sparrow - 150

The Iceland Gull was observed circling low over Kingston Road (one block south-east of the yard!) with the usual group of Ring-billed Gulls.  It looked striking against the dark clouded sky!  The Robins flew at tree-top level from the east in several groups with many landing in the surrounding trees, along the fence, on the ground, and at the bird bath.  While out shoveling the snow, the Cedar Waxwings were heard and then seen flying low from the east at tree-top level - sadly there were no Bohemian Waxwings mixed-in to the group.

Good birding!

Is backyard birding our new normal?
