Awesome! Had one of these gorgeous snakes sunning itself on some rocks in Tobermory close to my bare foot way back in the late 80's.
I had no idea what type of snake it was, a man walking by stopped and suggested that I move slowly, get up and move away. Me "why?". Man "there's a snake". Me "yeah?". Man "it's a Massassauga Rattler". Me "oh". I was actually afraid to move at all in case any motion set it off. Anyhow, I followed the man's advice and everything was OK. The snake remained relaxed on the rocks.
My first and only sighting ever of a Massassauga Rattler.
