First hummingbird sighting of 2018

Will wonders never cease?? My first hummingbird sighting, a male, a week earlier than most past years! I'll watch for a while to see if he returns. Feeder has been up for about a week.

First known visit was just after 6:30AM, returned at 7:05AM, going back to bed! (me, that is), will refill feeder later this morning. :)

I had my first hummer too yesterday morning at the feeder. I also had a Black-and-White Warbler, a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak and a couple of Brown Thrashers. Put out your halved oranges now for the Baltimore Orioles and Catbirds. Raisins and dried cranberries will also bring in the Catbirds (if they generally show up in your area).

 Who, Me? He was here last evening, early this morning and he just showed up in the pouring rain so I guess he will be hanging around, for a while anyway. Pretty quiet otherwise, few sparrows making whoopee, Mr. Cardinal feeding his mate and the other usual suspects, but only one(?) squirrel, the crazy red one terrorizing everything else under the feeder. I also have a pair of cottontails who are much more discrete than the sparrows... :)

Put up my feeders 3 days ago and got my first Hummingbird the following day and my first Oriole yesterday!  Both birds have returned several times since arriving.  Hurray, life is good!

First male this morning at 8am.
just an fyi he told me he's been here over a week and I just haven't seen him so I guess I beat you after all  :wink:

feeder's out. don't expect anything for 2 weeks. but i did get a rose-breasted grosbeak yesterday, which is a first!

Two weeks??  Are you kidding me?  Better check your nectar Richard because I've had at least one male hanging around since May 3 and we're both waiting for the ladies to arrive. I thought today would be the day but I looked at last year's photos and my first female image was taken on May 15. Interesting mix now in the back yard - house sparrows, a pair of cardinals, a red breasted nuthatch, robins, chickadees, goldfinches, 1 red squirrel and 2 cottontail rabbits... :)

First female this morning. Flew right in and buzzed the dog and went right to the feeder.
Jerks? You're just jealous
Clean and refill your feeder every few days and have patience. I think you have them around but you just don't see them. Be weird like me and Howie and sit watching the feeders instead of doing something more productive

Good show! While my 2 males were chasing each other all over the yard my first female showed up! Let the fun begin! I'll try to get a courtship video later today!

maybe you're right. who knows.
had a baltimore oriole on the feeder today. that's a first.

so maybe you guys were right.
i came home at 8 tonight. went to the backyard, put some water in the feeder's ant trap.

i just posted and thought "i should go outside and wash and refill the feeder. maybe these guys are right."

i take a look at the feeder and see this:

yep. a tiny strand of poop and it's perfectly aligned with one of the feeder's holes. 2 inches from the hole. so someone paid it a nighttime visit.
