I've been reading this board for quite a while and thought today would be a good day for my first post since I also experienced another 'first' today.
While stopping at one of my usual wildlife haunts (Rotary Park in South Ajax) I saw a squirrel engaged in a heated discussion with what I presumed to be another squirrel. Was I surprised when I saw the other "squirrel" fly away. It was a male wood duck!
The duck continued to fly from tree to tree, finally hooking up with his mate, and off they flew toward the water.
Until I did some research online, I had no idea that they nest in tree cavities but I guess their name makes more sense now!
Here's a pic - unfortunately I didn't get a shot of the altercation with the squirrel.
