Get anywhere near water during the summer and you hear soft splashes as turtles slide off their
logs and into the water to foil any attempt at photographing them. In early spring it is still cold
enough to sedate their metabolism and an approach becomes tangible. This Red-eared Slider was at Amos
Pond and its cold-blooded nature made a shot possible. It was still warming itself in the in the
sun to fuel its next slide.
