Great Egrets amd other herons at this time of year do not have feather accoutrements like what you
might see during breeding, but a strong wind or a nervous Egret might show an erectile response
analogous to piloerection whereby feathers stand upward like your hair might stands on end when a
big and unexpected credit card bill arrives. Even the arrival of other birds may bring it on.
