Mallard Hybrid

I hope this works as this is my first time trying to upload a photo from Flickr.

I was hoping you guys could provide some insight into what this mallard might be crossed with.

My guess, for what little it's worth, leans toward Mallard x American Widgeon.
I love it when a plan comes together.

Seems to be mostly Mallard with some American Black Duck genes, if I take a guess.

why not just an immature male, not all species get their full plumage after 1 year

We have someone in our midst that comprehends the significance of continuity,
as in time, and that there are fleeting periods of it when transition happens
even though we may have been engaged elsewhere and missed it. This Mallard
may be going through that awkward stage and hoped no one would notice.
