It sounds like a White-crowned Sparrow.

I would've guessed white-crowned sparrow too.
This combination of features seems unlikely.
horned lark?
female rose-breasted grosbeak?
what was the habitat?

Hey:))

Could you please  give a better description of your location i.e.  Latitude and Longitude..

My Inlaws think that Sault St. Marie is South  Eastern Ontario and Toronto is the Tropics

It could be a Whiskey Jack  (Gray Jay) if your are near  Barrie.

Napper :D

Northern mockingbird? I've seen one with a quite white-head but no real stripes.
