Who know their insects? Wasps/Hornets and such.

We were able to dodge the majority of the thunderstorms on the the way home from the cottage
this evening. Something was happening on Side road 17 outside Orangeville. Firetruck was blocking the road had to reverse direction and find another way. On the next side road just West, there was some tree debris on the the road.

Got home around 7 pm to find a tiny little bunny in the backyard thinking he/she was invisible.

About a 1/2 hour later I noticed a very large Wasp/hornet along the fence. It didn't seem aggressive.
Its abdomen was thick, fairly long (3/4 inch) and extensively yellow. It's head was Black and Yellow.

I will try to get an image of the beast before I head to work Monday afternoon. Edit,  It looks similar to a Hornet Moth
which I didn't know existed until a few minutes ago..  10:43 pm Sunday.Edit

Last year we had some very aggressive wasp/Hornets nesting near our front door. At night they would attempt to enter the house while we would come and go.

Send me a pic....hey did you get the bear pix I sent?

For starters, "HE" is a "SHE"....thick abdomen suggests queen...which would be interesting at this time of year.

I am not an expert on bees / wasps but I did my m.sc. in myrmecology....ants...they're related so I got a little spin off stuff from my thesis and some friends...

my kid is convinced we have murder hornets here...shaking my head...I don't take my kid seriously ever....she's crazy....gets it from her mother....don't tell my wife I said that.
