SX50 replacement
on:
August 03, 2020, 02:53:57 PM
My SX50 appears to be on it's last legs and I'm thinking of buying an SX70 to replace it. I have 2 dslrs (a 30D and a 50D) which I occasionally use but I want a lightweight camera with at least a 50x zoom. I know I probably won't improve on image quality going from the SX50 to the SX70 but there should be other improvements because of the 6 years between the two Canon superzooms. Does anyone out there have an SX70? I've looked at the Nikon Pxxx models but I think they are too heavy for my liking.

Hi Howie, Do you have a particular budget you're working with? As far as size goes and your requirement for zoom, I think you'd be looking at the SX70 or the Nikon P900. The more zoom the bigger the size/weight.

Hi Mike. I was considering the Sony RX10 IV so budget is no object. We love cruising and I enjoy shooting sunrises and sunsets from first the morning light to last evening twilight and that's why the 1" sensor Sony was in the mix but it looks like cruising is now out of the question, at least for the time being. I've already had my SX50 repaired once and, since estimates are free, I will probably have it looked at again by the guys at Sun Camera (great service btw, highly recommended). Thanks for your reply, I'll let you know what happens, what I decide to do, etc.

Ah yes the Sony is supposed to be a great option as well. Yep! Definitely post what you settle on!
