Scarborough Bluffs Park

[Bluffs Birder]

Hi All,

Was in the park this afternoon for a stroll before the rains came.  An hour and a half walk produced 41 different species including the following:

Chimney Swift (many) (chattering)
Red-eyed Vireo (a first time bird for me)
House Wren
Veery
Gray Catbird (many)
Northern Mockingbird (never stopped singing!!!)
Nashville Warbler
Yellow Warbler (many)
Chestnut-sided Warbler
Magnolia Warbler
Black-throated Blue Warbler
Black-throated Green Warbler
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Palm Warbler
Black-and-white Warbler
American Redstart
Mourning Warbler (a first time bird for me)
Common Yellowthroat
Wilson's Warbler (a first time bird for me)
Indigo Bunting (male) (a first time bird for me)
Baltimore Oriole
American Goldfinch (many)

Great report!  I walked around for a bit with the camera and snapped a few photos of some of the birds you mentioned and am putting them in the bird photo forum -enjoy!

Hi Attila,

Great pictures!  It appears that you were down below at Bluffers Park and I was up top at Scarborough Bluffs Park but you still found an Indigo Bunting - very nice!!! - could possibly be the same bird.  Where did you see the Spotted Sandpiper?

Was in the park again this morning for a couple of hours and saw a few different birds from yesterday's report.

Common Loon
Great black-backed Gull
Bonaparte's Gull (a first time bird for me)
Common Tern (a first time bird for me)
Least Flycatcher
Rose-breasted Grosbeak
Blackpoll Warbler (a first time bird for me)
Cape May Warbler (female)
Orchard Oriole (male, female, and a "1st summer") (a first time bird for me)
Barn Swallow

Also of note today:
Chimney Swift (many, and still chattering away!!!)
Baltimore Oriole (many)
American Goldfinch (many)
Yellow Warbler (many)
Nashville Warbler
Chestnut-sided Warbler
Magnolia Warbler

Black back gull?  I must have missed it by only a couple of hours! CRAP! lol

Spotted Sandpiper was on the West Beach, foraging on the south point amongst some Ring Billed Gulls.

The Indigo Bunting was on the east side of the park in the trees by the beach.  

Thinking about heading back out Saturday morning, although the real temptation is to head to Presqu'ile to see more sandpipers...

A friend used to live in Trenton,so I went often...great place..know it well. In pouring rain? maybe not so great. Good luck if U go. Great sightings around the bluffs areas!

Hi All,

I was in Scarborough Bluffs Park yesterday afternoon and observed 48 different species...9 of the warblers species that I've previously reported were seen again as well as many of the other birds.  A few of the highlights were:

American Kestrel
Killdeer
Eastern Kingbird
Northern Mockingbird (read my entry under "Behaviour")
Brown Thrasher
Rose-breasted Grosbeak (female)
Indigo Bunting (3 in one birch tree!)
Bobolink (a first time bird for me)
Orchard Oriole (female)
