A bit cold, but I set out. Kinglets are still here, but not cooperative for pic this morning. Tried to compensate for the kingfisher, forever trying  to avoid me, and a group of common mergansers, whom I took a lot of time trying to go around. I peeked out from the gap of the weeds, still there. And I went further to be on the bright side, went out just to say good bye to them... These merciless birds!

Thought it was a raccoon, turned out to be a cat.

I'm sure I saw it happened before, but when I saw a downy pecking away on the dried plants, it's still too cute to watch and hear. It's like he was brought up by a chickadee, then I noticed he got into a fight with another downy. So it's not a single incident. They all do it.

Really adorable, and because they are quite feisty, not camera shy

I think the Cardinal girls are more cooperative than the boys

You did well to go out today because tomorrow looks to be a dastardly day … argh.
I have not seen a Tree sparrow in quite a while even though they used to be everywhere at this time of year, or perhaps a little later in the season.

You had great outing it seems Ally. Everything fits well in the nature except that stray cat.

Aww, somehow I thought it was a chipping. Maybe the reddish hair confused me

Yes Ally, there is a passing similarity between a Chipping sparrow and a Tree sparrow. The Tree Sparrow has a central breast spot that the Chipping does not carry and the two-tone bill (upper vs lower) of the Tree sparrow is the easiest feature to detect in the field. I find that a Tree sparrow has a brighter, crisper look than the more delicate appearance of the Chipping.
