A graphic moment of a barred owl

I must say I didn't expect to get to see a barred owl ripping a mouse apart....

He was taking a break this one, there is only a drop of blood on his beak. Is it a he or she?

Thank you, Ally. I didn't even know what I got until I opened the image in my computer. Poor mouse....

Raw nature. I find Owls more considerate as they often swallow the whole thing. However, not so for smaller hawks/falcons.

Dinu, yes, you are right. It really amazed me that the owl could stuff its beak with half of the mouse body.

Nice work! Where did you capture this? I had never heard a barred owl live until this winter....and now I've heard it a number of times but I have never seen one....same with the Eastern Screech....hear them all the time in summer....have never spotted one.
