Once again we are grateful to Mike Burrell for his handy-dandy guide to Spring arrival dates in Ontario. Although it is an old post based on available data up to 2013, the general dates should still provide a useful guide.

Is there a handy dandy guide to fall migration of Sparrows and Finches.
I had an interesting Sparrow two days ago I could not identify. Thanks

There were some really small birds flycatching today in the rain that I could not get a good look at.

You can use eBird to see how common a bird is in a certain area during the year.

The example below is for Halton Region.

While only related to Winter Finches, I always look forward to this report each year. It doesn’t look like we will see lot of finches in southern Ontario although it looks like Algonquin Park could present some good opportunities this year.

Thanks for posting the report. Not encouraging news when birding consists of the backyard and the street-side woodlot. Even during the finch eruption period I didn't see much local action. The report paints a dull picture for winter visitors this year unless one can locate to hot spots (up north) and that scenario is not an option for me. I'm sure you will post photos from Algonquin, so I have that to look forward to.
