I always enjoy seeing a Pine warbler, especially in the spring when they are profoundly yellow in colour. I have never seen a “group” of Pine warblers together. They are solitary birds and seldom seen even with other warblers as an entourage. Goldfinch are gregarious and are almost always in groups for protection and as a means of sharing a feed find. Warblers have thinner bills than a goldfinch, or any finch. A finch beak is less acute, wedge-shaped and stronger than a more acute, pointed, and weaker warbler bill. Warblers are insect eaters and don’t need to crush seeds like a finch does so well. A Pine warbler’s bill is fairly strong as far as warblers bills go, although not as formidable as the bill of a Parula, which resembles a high velocity bullet.
