Site outtage leads to a New Domain Name

Hello everyone!

As you have hopefully discovered by now, OutdoorOntario is on a new domain (.org instead of .net), and I just wanted to take a moment to explain what happened to those who might be curious.

Last week the domain name outdoorontario.net stopped directing traffic to the server hosting our site. A series of conversations with the domain hosting company revealed that ownership of the domain needed to be 'verified' (or possibly re-verified?) for reasons they haven't made clear. The problem lay in that while Andy had given over control of the domain to me via passing on his logins & passwords, the domain itself was still registered in his name & email-address. I have since learned that domain names are treated like property, and ownership must be formally transferred, either via the owners email address, proof of government identification, or ultimately a court order. Unfortunately Andy's email address seems to have been deactivated, so there was no way for me to contact him, or otherwise transfer ownership in order to 'verify' the domain for continued use. (Though it could be re-purchased in about a year when it ultimately expires)

Therefore the only real solution I could come up with was to order a new domain to replace it, and notify all the regular members of the move.

And so here we are.
