There were 4 or five flickers, parent and young, they did their dancing, and Cardinals although,didn't go mess with the adult, was not nervous facing the kid.

Wow, I haven't seen a Brown thrasher all year. I surely would have remembered ... I think. I've haven't heard many flicker so far and only seen maybe one bird of that persuasion since the spring. The call of the flicker is something I always associate with fall. I've seen two Pileated woodpecker so far. One was high Q and about 300 meters away and the other was a recent flyby. Their call is another fall experience that will hopefully unfold in the coming weeks.
I never seem to get close enough to a flicker for a detailed photo. A very skittish pecker, for sure. I'm glad to see you are out with your super lens. Gotta keep that arm in shape, you know.
