For me at least this is the first Hermit thrush that I've tried to photograph this year. I've seen a couple recently but didn't attempt to go beyond that. I couldn't get close because there were a couple of people in the park foraging for plants and also near the thrush thereby making it very nervous. The best lit shot was on fallen wood but the thrush was looking away while perched, but at least it depicts the ruddy tail and rump rather well.

Ha Ha, a chip on the old block. I haven't seen one yet, and let's face it, that's nuts. There should have been one in the yard by now. The Hermit thrush wasn't hard to find. You might say it found me. I expected that there would be several in the area because the environment was absolutely perfect for thrushians. I eventually lost it and then found another bird but I think that it was just the same bird whistling a different tune. I also heard a distant wren but it did not call long enough to identify it, or locate it. People walking around harvesting plants from the park didn't help matters either. So much fallen wood, so much rich green moss, even the ground was soaked enough that I didn't make any noise while I was moving about. Even the old dried leaves didn't crunch when trodden upon. It was like walking on sphagnum. I figured that the recent heavy rain would have that effect but I was still amazed to experience it. Although there was a breeze the woods were protected by a hill so I was quite comfortable in my ancient, torn, cheap winter coat. I think I've had it for over fifty years. I don't know how much longer it will last because I have to throw it in the dryer, on high, along with everything else I wear for routine de-ticking. They can ban Tik-Tok but they can't ban plain old ticks.

Yes, I know, I already have a FOY Hermit thrush. Ya think, just maybe I could start a second-of-year bird (SOY) because what's a bird with out a little soy sauce.
