What is crow eating?

I noticed a couple of crows way up upon dead trees within the street-side woodlot. I say "trees" because one crow was perched atop one tree while the other was feeding on something from the top of another skeletal remain. Whatever that crow was eating was easily retrieved from the rotten crevices of the tree and it seemed chunky. My telephoto lens couldn't make it out either. It looks like fungus, or bark. Anyone have any thoughts about these mysterious morsels?

Somebody claims that if one crow hates you, the whole flock in the area would chastise you.

Be very careful and don't mess up with them.  ;D

Holy crow feathers! You expect me to kowtow to a crow? No way! A crow with a grudge ... a hostile crow ... a hostile group of crows ... they can all kiss my assets. Then again, maybe I should rethink that stance. Crows are big, crows are smart, crows remember stuff and savour revenge, like a syndicate, a mob, a mob of crows, even a murder of crows! OK, now I'm a little scared. NO MORE TALK OF CROWS! OK?
