There are usually groundhogs in the median of the DVP, right around Spanbridge.  Saw one yesterday up and about.

Also, there were two deer just south of this section on the west side of the DVP.

It always gets me how excited we all become when something is spotted in early spring. We fervently post reports even before spring begins. I can't say I've seen a marmot yet, certainly I've seen a few roadhogs ... pretty much every day, but I spotted two deer next to Highland Creek and four deer at East Point Park. I'm hoping for a whole herd next time I go out. No, wait, that would have to be caribou, wouldn't it? I wonder if there is still a moose at Kensington Market? Must be there! Unless someone moved it ... or shot it. May be the last urban moose. Last-man moose. Not too spring-like this week ... cool and windy and mostly cloudy. Went to visit Reesor (lower) pond yesterday, as well as Staines pond, but everywhere I went a hail squall followed me. Dark low clouds, fierce wind with hail that moved as I moved, even though there was blue sky elsewhere. Reesor pond: a couple of male Bufflehead, male Common merganser and male Hooded merganser. At Staines pond: two male Common merganser and two females as well. Ring-necked ducks reported early in the day but I didn't see any.
