I went to RBG, hoping to find the White American Pelican, on Monday.

But I got distracted by the wild rabbits. They were so tame. I was very close to this one, and got even closer, then guess what?

Indeed, a very tolerant rabbit.  If you looked askance while taking a video then you could also eliminate eye contact and thereby further reduce the rabbit's stress level.  Moreover, getting down to terra firma, such as sitting, diminishes your looming bulk (in no way a reflection of your weight) and presents a less imposing threat.  You could even pretend that you are foraging, an activity indicating (to the rabbit) that you are not a carnivore.  I approached a GBH once by mock feeding, turning my back on it while close to the ground, awkwardly approaching the creek bank to splash water and then return to feeding but now and ever more so getting closer and closer to the heron.  We became mates and now have lunch together ever other Tuesday.  With a cell phone camera and its big screen you can video a rabbit without even looking directly at it, relying solely on your peripheral vision.  It's also a great way to discover whether or not you are losing your peripheral vision, in which case it's time for a Field Test.  Wait, a Field Test?  You mean when we go out into the field to photograph stuff that we'll be tested on it?  So, the rabbit kept stuffing its face and not even looking at you ... sounds just like a husband.

Yes, I was using my cell phone to film the rabbit. I could not believe it was not bothered even though I was talking and getting closer and closer. In the end, it was me who moved away.  ;D

Shame on you.  You ghosted a poha whiddle bunny whabbit, he, he, he, he.  RBG --- rabbit --- organic greens --- worth putting up with people --- leads to a gig on youtube --- no agent --- reeks of exploitation.

If I go next time, I am tempted to taste the grass. Maybe it is indeed yummy.  8)

When I went back to check on the rabbit, this was what it was doing. I never saw a rabbit doing this before.

Preening is an important activity for most higher life forms, including birds.  Aside from distributing sebaceous oils that protect the fur or feathers, there is the matter of de-ticking and removing other fine parasites.  I may occasionally pretend that I'm engrossed in foraging in order to keep a nearby subject at ease, but there is no way I'm going to lift my leg that high and preen.  I might get arrested.

You have a right to remain silent, pre-emptive defense may just incriminate yourself.
