Much better light levels this morning and certainly crisp enough for October. Modestly energetic NW wind overnight generally means there will be something to see in the morning. Some small leaves still showed that gravity is hard at work but they were less of a distraction than they were yesterday. I spotted a few red Maple leaves on lower branches. Sparrows were active from the get go. Mostly Song sparrows and White-throated sparrow (both light and dark morph). I didn't see a juvenile White-crowned today. I was hoping that I would. The sparrows were eating tiny wild grapes. There was not a lot fruit available so I didn't help myself. Just as well that I showed some restraint because a Hermit thrush showed up to take its share. I'm still waiting for a Fox sparrow. The only warblers that I saw was a male Common yellowthroat and a distant pair of Tennessee warblers that were out of my reach, cuz my arms are short. I relocated but by then they were gone. The yellowthroat didn't stay long either but it was closer to me when it first appeared. The most vociferous visitor was a House wren that was having a hissy-fit behind me, into the sun. I waited patiently for it to come around and face me, like a .... bird. I saw one RC kinglet and three Brown creeper. The main draw for the morning were the Yellow-bellied sapsuckers, both adult male, female and juvenile. In the same bush that hosted the Tennessee warblers there also appeared 2 - 3 Blue-headed vireo and once again, they were too far away to shoot. By 9:30 everything really quieted-down and so I left.
